Italian police chasing a holy relic containing the blood of Pope John Paul II has been stolen.
As quoted by the BBC, Tuesday ( 28/01/2014 ), the holy relics apparently stolen by breaking into a small chapel which is a special place for the Pope.
The theft occurred in the Church of San Pietro della Ienca located in a secluded spot in the mountains in the central region of Abruzzo.
On weekends, some thieves destroy the protective bars and forced entry through a window.
They leave the box where the collection is stored, but it took the cross and relics which contains valuable piece of gauze that had been soaked in the blood of the late Pope. It is one of only three kinds of relics like it in the world.
Members of the local cultural association that supports the chapel seemed confused over this incident.
" We are very disappointed with this theft. We do not know who could do it. Police are conducting a search, " said Franca Corrieri, members of the association.

" This is an area that is frequently visited by John Paul II with his secretary and not too many guards. We feel very connected to him. After his death , his secretary, Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, came and told us that he wanted the church became a sanctuary, " said Corrieri.
