United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization ( UNESCO ) held a regular meeting in Phnom Penh , Cambodia . The results of the meeting , several tourist destinations and natural history , now bears a World Heritage Site . Among others, Mount Fuji in Japan , the town of Agadez in Niger clay , and the city of Kaesong in North Korea .
Kaesong is a city in North Hwanghae Province . Kaesong once the capital of the Koryo Dynasty ( 918-1392 ) . This is the dynasty that gave identity to Korea , before it was split into North and South . Of Koryo , comes the Korean name .
The city has many historical relics include tombs of the kings of Korea , the old fort , and the 700 -year -old school . In total there are 12 sites that show the history of the establishment of the Korean heart . UNESCO assess the city of Kaesong as a valuable political , cultural , philosophical and spiritual .
Monuments and historical sites were located a few kilometers from the industrial area that once managed North and South Korea , together . But the area was closed because of the political situation between the two countries increasingly heated .
Previously , Kaesong is in the region of South Korea . Until the 1950-1953 Korean War , Kaesong is under the control of North Korea . Even up to the civil war was over , Kaesong North Korea still occupied . Kaesong became the only city that changes ownership due to the civil war .
After Kaesong declared a World Heritage Site , some black-suited North Korean delegation stood up and applauded .
