The U.S. National Security Agency ( NSA ) collects and stores 200 million phone short messages every day from all over the world, such as British media reported.
NSA filter and store data from SMS messages and British intelligence had access to most of the information, said the Guardian and Channel 4.
The report was based on information leaked by a former NSA contractor Edward Snowden Click and released just one day after the announcement of key U.S. policy.
NSA knows a trip plan, contact lists, financial transactions and many other personal things based on SMS, the report said.
The NSA told the BBC that they "collect SMS data according to the law."
"The impression that the NSA data collection is not limited to a breach and it was wrong," said the NSA.
President Barack Obama on Friday will announce changes in U.S. electronic surveillance program, based on a review of the NSA activist throughout the fall by the White House panel.
On Thursday, the White House said Obama has told Prime Minister David Cameron about the outcome of the review.
